System of baggage self-service check-in IS-BagDrop

Self-service helps to reduce lines at check-in counters and to cut costs of passenger service

stojka_auto_checkinIS-BagDrop counter is designated for self-service baggage tagging and checking in. Usage of IS-BagDrop counters helps to reach two main goals:

  • to reduce lines at check-in counters by rearranging passenger traffic
  • to cut costs of passenger service by automation of baggage checking in and introduction of self-service

Simulation modelling helps to figure out correct number of check-in counters, IS-BagDrop counters and self-check-in kiosks and to place them in the most optimal way in the terminal.

IS-BagDrop is supplied in two variants:

IS-BagDrop Adv

IS-BagDrop Adv makes the process of passenger and baggage check-in completely automatic – from passenger’s registration and boarding pass printing to registration of baggage and, if necessary, making additional payment for excess baggage. IS-BagDrop Adv completely substitutes common check-in counter.

The option of self-service baggage check-in is used to make check-in process faster in order to reduce lines at the counters.

ISBagDrop Adv is installed at the weighing and labelling conveyor of the system of baggage handling in use.

After scanning of boarding pass IS-BagDrop Adv helps passenger to check in his baggage quickly and transports it into baggage handling system. Baggage check-in by passenger is carried out in several simple steps:

Reservation data input

bagdrop_step1Passenger comes to IS-BagDrop Adv counter and feeds reservation data, that is name and registration number of his reservation, into the system. After that the system finds the passenger in the relevant list and offers him to check in his baggage. Following instructions on the screen the passenger put his baggage onto the weighing conveyor. After weighing baggage tag is printed.

Baggage labelling and check-in

bagdrop_step2Following instructions on the screen the passenger sticks baggage tag to his baggage and confirms readiness to check in his baggage. IS-BagDrop Adv switches on weighing conveyor and transports the baggage into the tunnel for inspection. The tunnel is equipped with baggage tag scanners and baggage dimensions scanner. The system checks baggage dimensions and tag and accepts the baggage for the flight — transports it into baggage handling system.

Printing of boarding pass

bagdrop_step3After all baggage units has been checked in the system prints the passenger’s boarding pass and invites him to proceed for boarding.

Baggage admission for the flight and additional fees

IS-BagDrop system contains data about the airline’s standard depending on class of service and receives information from PLN on the class of reservation of passenger’s ticket. So baggage admission for the flight is carried out only on condition of compliance of the checked in baggage with all transportation norms of the airline. In case of necessity it is possible to pay for extra weight or additional baggage item at IS-BagDrop counter.

IS-BagDrop Adv model with the help of baggage dimensions scanner can evaluate the size and structure of the baggage. Usage of dimensions scanner helps to avoid cases of oversized or non-standard baggage getting into the system.

Integration with baggage handling system

IS-BagDrop counter totally controls weighing and feeding conveyor. For that IS-BagDrop is connected with PLC controller of baggage handling system, takes place of control block of weighing conveyor and becomes an intermediate link in the process of control of baggage feeding onto collecting conveyor.
